It’s been one month since executive chef Danielle Turner closed her one year old eponymous Santa Monica restaurant, she needing to regroup with a new concept, including a whole new menu, in she having lost her focus, with her primary investor, her college friend Owen, thinking about pulling out altogether partly depending upon what she comes up with as that new concept. For inspiration, she travels to Italy, specifically the small town of Ostia Antica, which is solely a base as she has a whirlwind of a culinary itinerary within the region planned for her short stay. She finds her plan isn’t as easy to implement as she had hoped, with local Giancarlo Donati, recently returned home after living in Rome for a stint, ending up offering to act as her tour guide. Pegged to someday take over the family café, Giancarlo, the first in the patriarchal line of his family in five generations not to be named Aldo, wants to continue with his deceased mother’s tradition to come up with the seasonal flavor of gelato served at the café, his father Aldo who likes to stick to the traditional. Danielle ends up getting caught up in Giancarlo’s mission as it allows her to use her creative culinary instincts. As Danielle and Giancarlo start to fall for the other, their road to a happily-ever-after is dependent upon the outcome of their immediate respective professional tasks. Giancarlo’s own thoughts may be affected by truly learning from his father why his parents didn’t end naming him Aldo. Written by Huggo
